Welcoming the Transition to Vata Season

Geese overhead, wool sweaters, red orange yellow leaves. Autumn always seems to draw us back to ourselves after the heat and activity of summer. As we transition into fall, we will adjust our Yoga practice to nourish and sooth vata, one of three biological forces—or doshas—referred to extensively in Yoga and Ayurveda. Vata brings us our gifts of enthusiasm, creativity, agility, speed, and responsiveness that move us to achieve our life goals. However, if out of balance, Ayurveda states that vata can lead to anxiety, depression, lack of energy, and a weakening of all tissues in the body.

We care for vata in our Yoga practice so that it stays in balance and can support our health and well-being. To do that, we will use poses and breath-work that strengthen and stabilize the pelvic region, soothe the nervous system, and focus the mind. Woven into our practice, you will experience conscious flows, grounding standing poses, stabilizing seated poses, and forward folds of all types. And, of course, delight in a luxurious shavasana.

May you feel grounded, calm, and content throughout the season. I hope to see you in class :)
